Assist. Prof. Dr. Rossen Lubenov Pavlov

On 9th September 2016 Dr. Rossen Lubenov Pavlov, Assistant Professor in the Nuclear Theory Laboratory of the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy (INRNE, Sofia, Bulgaria), passed away.

Dr. Rossen L. Pavlov was born on 8 January 1947 in Sofia and was graduated from the Faculty of Physics of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridsky” in 1972 with a specialization on Atomic Physics. He made his diploma work in INRNE. From 1974 to 1981 Rossen Pavlov has worked in the Central Laboratory of Biophysics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). Since 1982 R. Pavlov had worked for the INRNE-BAS. In 1999 he defended successfully his PhD thesis in the prestigious Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris under the supervision of Professor Jean Maruani. Dr. Rossen Pavlov published more than 60 scientific papers and reports at international conferences. Most of his papers had been published in important scientific journals, such as International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, Physical Review C, Progress in Theoretical Chemistry & Physics, Advanced Quantum Chemistry, Journal of Molecular Structure and others.

The main field of activity of Dr. R. Pavlov was the development and application of methods based on the energy density functional theory by the use of local-scaling transformation techniques in biophysics, molecular physics and nuclear physics, and later on in studies of neutron stars. He supervised several diploma works and consulted one successfully defended PhD thesis and two PhD students. Rossen Pavlov has launched a number of Franco-Bulgarian projects and actively participated in a broad international collaboration with his colleagues.

Those who have known him will find inspiration and strength in his memory.
